Newton’s New Indoor Winter Farmer’s Market

Newton has started its own Winter Farmers’ Market, which runs on Tuesdays from 1:30 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the Hyde Community Center in Newton Highlands. I visited today and guess what I found?

Live musical entertainment by Newton’s own Newton Family Singers. The Newton Family Singers are an intergenerational chorus and band celebrating family, community and American folk music. They are performing on Sunday, December 9th at 4pm at Memorial Spaulding Elementary School (250 Brookline Street). $10/adults $8/kids

Newton Farmer’s Markets Open This Week!

Farmers Markets in Newton

I am excited for Newton’s Farmer’s Markets to open this week! I go to both some weeks. Friday’s has better parking but a more limited selection. Tuesdays also has the ice cream truck parked inside with premium ice cream as a way to get the kids to come along without complaining.

What is your favorite stand or item to buy? My vote is the peaches and the fish guys.

Summer Bounty at Newton Farmers’ Market

I have been enjoying the Newton Farmer’s Market this summer more than usual. It really helped that my kids were in camp all day until 4:00 on Tuesdays so that I could go to the bigger Cold Spring Park Farmer’s Market sans cranky children. We have been eating 6 pounds of fresh peaches every three days, simply peeled and sliced at dinner. My youngest has also been enjoying the cucumbers; he loves them as does our dog. The Farmer’s Market cucumbers are fresher and more crisp than the ones at the grocery store. Both local Farmer’s Markets have the fish guys with very fresh fish and I’m always saying Finney’s Freshest Fish French Fried at dinner time (apologies to Dr. Seuss!). The tuna steaks were amazing!

If you have a chance, stop by. Get an ice cream at the Cold Spring Park one with your kids if you are nice and bring them along. There’s also a lemonade stand. I can’t believe that summer is almost over but the good news is that the Newton Farmer’s Markets continue until almost Halloween! Enjoy the bounty!
