The Street announces its most extensive calendar yet for The Pop-Up. Over the next eight weeks, between April and July 2016, Sweet Lydia’s, papers & presents, and Rancatore’s Ice Cream will debut in the space with distinct offerings ranging from gourmet food to artisan gifts. Since launching The Pop-Up in November 2015, The Street has given some of the most creative entrepreneurs and small businesses in Massachusetts the opportunity to shine.

Sweet Lydia’s is open now through Sunday, May 15, 2016. Sweet Lydia’s pop up offers a range of its renowned confections, including a special Mother’s Day Gift Boxwith chocolate salted caramels, champagne marshmallows, toffee, and s’mores. Also on the menu are Gourmet Marshmallows in champagne, passion fruit, and vanilla;S’mores in original, coconut, raspberry, caramel, peanut butter; S’moresels, bite-sized vanilla marshmallows with a cinnamon and graham cracker swirl, andChocolate Salted Caramels in flavors like stout & pretzel. Crumple and Toss will have a presence within Sweet Lydia’s pop-up, carrying its locally made and wonderfully witty cards, including a number of catchy options for Mother’s Day.

Perfectly timed for graduation season, papers & presents will pop up with a colorful selection of customizable gifts, party supplies and stationary expertly curated by owner Carolyn McCoy. Formerly a beloved boutique in Wellesley Center, papers & presents has taken its goods on the go with a brand new mobile retail truck, dubbedpenelope, which will also park on property as a complement to The Pop-Up experience..

Rancatore’s Ice Cream

June 17-July 30, 2016

Looking ahead to summer, Rancatore’s Ice Cream will occupy The Pop-Up space, bringing specialty frappes and ice cream flavors such as Hazelnut Cream, Lemon Lemonsnap, and Tiger Milk and other one-of-a-kind offerings to The Street during the dog days of July. Rancatore’s has been serving made-from-scratch ice cream for 31 years and has three additional creameries in Lexington, Burlington and Newtonville.

The Pop-Up at The Street can be found near the newly opened MiniLuxe, and is directly adjacent to Star Market (3 Boylston Street Chestnut Hill, MA). Sweet Lydia’s hours of operation are Monday-Thursday, 11AM-7PM, Friday-Saturday 10AM-8PM and Sunday 10AM-6PM.

Registration Open for Newton 10K

REGISTRATION OPENS FOR 2016 NEWTON 10K

City’s Only 10K Race Will Benefit DREAMFAR High School Marathon

Fattman Productions, a strategic planning, marketing and promotions company, today announced that the 2016 Newton 10K will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2016, beginning at 8 AM. The city’s only 10K event will draw more than 600 runners who will race through Newton, covering parts of the Boston Marathon course, and winding through some of the city’s most beautiful and historic areas. The race is a community and family event with both adults and school-aged kids encouraged to participate. Proceeds from the race will benefit DREAMFAR High School Marathon. Runners can sign up here to participate in the race.

Proceeds from the Newton 10K will benefit DREAMFAR High School Marathon, a non-profit organization that challenges kids to reach their full potential – emotionally, socially and physically – through a mentor-supported marathon training program.

Race organizers are encouraging runners from all Newton schools to register and train for the event. The Newton school with the most registered student runners will receive a $750 prize awarded from Fattman Productions to the school’s PTO. For more information on how to register, visit here.

The race starts and finishes at the Horace Mann Elementary School, 687 Watertown Street, Newtonville, MA, and covers many historic and scenic Newton streets. Open Arts Day 2016

The Arsenal Center for the Arts hosts its annual Open Arts Day, a Watertown favorite, this year as part of ArtWeek Boston!

This family-friendly, free event takes place on Saturday, May 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Arsenal Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA. The drop-in open house features visual and performing arts workshops taught by the skilled arsenalARTS & Watertown Children’s Theatre staff.

Participants can experiment with Clay (handbuilding and pottery wheel), Printmaking, Mixed-media and other art activities for the whole family. This year’s event will again feature a very special outdoor Steamroller Printing Project where artists will carve printmaking plates, ink them up, and then roll over them with an industrial steamroller to create Relief print masterpieces!

Watertown Children’s Theatre will present workshops and performances highlighting music, movement and more. Catch a show of illusions from Magician Evan Northrup, Jazz for the Young at Heart from Jazz @ The Arsenal’s John Baboin, and open jam with Paradise Lost. Watertown Children’s Theatre and resident Theatre Company New Repertory Theatre will also reveal their 2016-2017 seasons.

The day will also feature a special check presentation from Whole Foods Market for the funds raised on the Arsenal Center’s 5% Community Giving Day (happening May 4, 2016 at the Newton and Newtonville Whole Foods Market locations.)

Newton House Tour May 22 Offers Inside Look at Remarkable Properties

On May 22 from noon to 5 pm, owners of outstanding private homes in Newton open their doors and welcome the public inside for the Newton House Tour. Now in its 34^th year, the much-anticipated annual tour showcases a selection of styles. The variety reflects the rich architectural heritage in Newton as well as creative ideas for interior design, restoration and renovation. Tickets for the tour, $35 per person and $30 for Historic Newton members, raise funds for Historic Newton. Order tickets online athistoricnewton.org, or by calling (617) 796-1450.

The 2016 tour features two Victorians, each updated and decorated in a different way. One of the oldest properties on the tour, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, dates back to 1866. At the other extreme is a new home built for aging in place. In all, the tour includes seven properties.

To kick off the House Tour, Historic Newton hosts a Preview Party on Saturday, May 21. Attendees enjoy hors d’oeuvres, fine wines and a slide show of the homes featured on this year’s tour. Preview party tickets begin at $125 per person.

Historic Newton’s mission is to inspire discovery and engagement by illuminating our community’s stories within the context of American history. An “Earfull” from Arsenal Center for the Arts!

The Arsenal Center for the Arts is proud to present the revival of Earfull – a literature and music series of “Writers Reading and Songwriters Singing” at Branch Line in Watertown’s Arsenal on the Charles complex this May.

The “Earfull Revival Kickoff” happening Tuesday, May 17^th at 6:30pm will be the first of three events in the renewed series and features Authors Jim Shepard and Jennifer Haigh along with Musicians Howie Day and Air Traffic Controller.

The series continues Tuesday, May 24^th with “Earfull Election Night” featuring Authors Charlie Pierce and Seth Mnookin and Musicians Will Dailey and Michael Tarbox.

And finally, Tuesday, May 31^st Earfull Welcomes Atul Gawande & Friends with none other than Atul Gawande, Michael Hoover and Musicians Darlingside and Saraswathi Jones.

The brainchild of Boston Musician and Author Jen Trynin and bookstore connoisseur Tim Huggins, Earfull first launched in the Fall of 2001 with the concept that, given a conducive environment, book people will appreciate being exposed to live music, and rock people will realize how cool it is to hear great authors reading their work aloud! EARFULL aimed to provide that environment, combining prominent author readings with established singer-songwriters in the hopes of broadening the appreciation of and audiences for both. After a brief hiatus from multiple sold-out seasons of the series, the Arsenal Center for the Arts is excited to bring back the beloved programming to a whole new audience.

Tickets for the series go on-sale April 26^th for just $20 at ArsenalArts.org and will sell out quickly. Limited seating is available during the event for patrons to purchase delicious food & drink from Branch Line.

Spring Clean Up: Volunteer Gardening Day in West Newton Hills

Temple Beth Avodah Barnum the Musical

Come one, come all to the greatest show on earth Temple Beth Avodah presents Barnum the Musical – a fun and engaging play about the life and times of PT Barnum and the early days of the circus era starring Newton Selectmen David Kalis.

Divorced/Separated Support Group in Arlington

Going through a divorce, considering divorce, or trying to move on after a divorce? We can help.

No need to go it alone, disasters are always better worked through with sup[ort and camaraderie. I never would have believed it five years ago – I’m not much of a group-joiner myself.

If you’ve been thinking about coming to a support meeting or event, now’s the time to act on that impulse!

We meet the first and third Wednesdays of every month, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 9 Russell Avenue, Watertown, MA – in the upper parish hall at 7:00pm.

There’ll be lots of friendly people there – all of whom are going through divorces, just like you. They’re all at different stages, so you’ll get a chance to see some people in deep distress, and others who will let you see that recovery is possible, that life can and will go back to normal.
