    Pru BOO Event for Kids

    Prudential Center to Partner with Teal Pumpkin for Annual PRU BOO Event

    Prudential Center, Boston, will host its annual PRU BOO indoor trick-or-treating and family fun event on Sunday, October 30. The event will benefit Horizons for Homeless Children, a non-profit organization that provides high-quality early education, opportunities for play, and family support services to more than 2,000 homeless children each week in Massachusetts.

    This year Prudential Center Boston has partnered with Teal Pumpkin Project to provide non-food items to be handed out in select stores in an effort to raise awareness for food allergies and promote the inclusion of all trick-or-treaters.

     

    Prudential Center will open its doors at 11am to hundreds of families from Greater Boston to enjoy “store-to-store” trick-or-treating, a performance by Stacey Peasley as well as a variety of activities provided by popular Boston attractions, including Boston Duck Tours, the Museum of Science, New England Aquarium, The Freedom Trail Foundation, and more!

     

    Schedule of Events

    11:00am – 1:00pm:                 Trick-or-treat and children’s activities

    1:30pm:                                   Performance by Stacey Peasley (South Garden, weather-permitting)

     

    With a $4 donation to Horizons for Homeless Children, participants receive a trick-or-treat bag that provides access to trick-or-treating at more than 50 stores and restaurants at the Prudential Center, along with other fun family-friendly activities. Presenting sponsor, Star Market, will provide candy.

     

    Trick-or-treat bags can be purchased at Prudential Center’s Customer Service Desk starting October 1, and at check-in stations located in Center Court and at the Boylston Street entrance starting at 9am the day of the event.

     

    Parking for the day is $16. Parking passes can be picked up at PRU BOO check-in stations.

    HopeWalks Raises $225k for Cancer!

    NEWTON-WELLESLEY HOSPITAL’S SEVENTH ANNUAL

    HOPEWALKS EVENT RAISES OVER $225,000 FOR THE VERNON CANCER CENTER

    The Newton-Wellesley Hospital Charitable Foundation recently held its seventh annual HopeWalks event. It was a huge success- resulting in 650 walkers and more than $225,000 raised to benefit the Integrative Support Services offered at the Vernon Cancer Center. These life-enhancing services for cancer patients optimize healing and comfort throughout treatment. Newton-Wellesley Hospital wants to make these services available to all patients, regardless of their ability to pay.

    “Our 7th HopeWalks was such a powerful community event. To see so many people walking in honor of friends and family who have fought or are fighting cancer was truly inspiring,” said Joan Archer, president, Newton-Wellesley Hospital Charitable Foundation. “We are tremendously grateful for the community’s support and that of our corporate sponsors – all of which sends a very strong message of hope to all our cancer patients and their families.”

    Fall Family Shows at Club Passim in Cambridge

    Wayne Potashwill be coming to Passim on Saturday, October 22 with his band to put on a high energy show that involves young audiences with sing-a-longs, dancing, jumping and lots of good-natured fun.

    Nerissa & Katryna Nields have always had a sound that translates across generations and will be coming to Passim on Saturday, November 5. When the sisters became parents, the occasional kids’ song was joined by more and more original kid-friendly songs, inspired by their growing children. Nerissa & Katryna Nields will also be performing an “adult” show at 7pm that evening.

    Alastair Moock’s Pastures of Plenty will be returning to Passim on Saturday, November 19 and is a show that the entire family will enjoy. Alastair Moock enjoys interacting with those of all ages and he transforms his show to bring out the key themes for a younger audience. Alastair Moock will also be performing an “adult” show at 8 pm that evening.

    The Street announces its wildly popular Halloween extravaganza, Trick-or-Treat at The Street, will return on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 1pm to 4pm. With hundreds of adults and children expected to attend, this year’s event will offer the most festive fall activities: trick-or-treating throughout the property, a Pooch Parade and Canine Costume Contest, a make your own “Monster Mix” station, a pick-your-own pumpkin patch, and live music from acclaimed kids dance band Josh and The Jamtones. All attendees, including dogs, are encouraged to wear costumes for prizes and perks. Adding to the autumn celebration, The Pop-Up on Wheels, a custom-made, vintage style coffee trike helmed by James Beard award-winning chef Ron Suhanosky will offer Ronsky’s housemade apple cider and zeppoli.     NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation Opens Entry Period for 2017 Scholarship Awards

    High School Seniors Running Their Own Business are Encouraged to Apply Now

    2017 NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards

    The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Young Entrepreneur Foundation announced that its scholarship application for the 2017 NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards is now open through December 18, 2016.  High school seniors who run their own business and plan to attend a two- or four-year university, college, or vocational institute during the fall of 2017 are eligible to apply.

    The NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation offers scholarships that recognize high school seniors who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and initiative through having established and run their own businesses.  The scholarship program’s goal is to raise awareness among the nation’s youth of the critical role that private enterprise and entrepreneurship play in the American economy.

     

    Thanks to Visa Inc. and other small business supporters, ninety-five scholarship winners will receive a $2,000 award, and five students will be chosen as Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award finalists and will attend an event in Washington, DC. The Young Entrepreneur of the Year recipient will receive $15,000, the Dan Danner Leadership Award winner will receive $15,000, and the remaining three finalists will each receive $5,000.

     

    What do students need to know?

    • Students are able to apply October 1, 2016 thru December 18, 2016.
    • The independent selection committee will review all applications and select semi-finalists. Semi-finalists will be notified by mid-January.
    • Semi-finalists must be interviewed by an NFIB member, who will be assigned to each semi-finalist.
    • The Award recipients are selected by an independent scholarship organization. Scholarships are merit-based, not based on financial need.
