    NewTV Celebrates 25 Years!

    NewTV celebrated its 25th Anniversary on May 11 with a gala and red carpet awards at the Brae Burn Country Club in Newton. Attendees included current and former members and board members, local politicians and businesspeople, media professionals, students and interns.

    Executive Director Bob Kelly welcomed everyone to the event, and NewTV Board President Paul Sears expressed his appreciation for the organization. Phil Lipof, the Emmy® Award-winning journalist and co-anchor of WCVB’s NewsCenter 5 at 5:00, gave an inspiring keynote address. Phil credited NewTV for helping to pave the way for his journalism career by giving him necessary hands-on experience in the field. After a retrospective video, the awards began.

    The club was transformed with NewTV branding and whimsical decorations representing television and film. Guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres while listening to classical music from the Suzuki School of Newton students.

    Village Bank received the Community Partner of the Year Award. Sam Rubel of Newton North High School and Everett Gilpin of Newton South High School were awarded scholarships. Many NewTV member-producers and volunteers were honored with awards for their work.

    The event was sponsored by Village Bank, RCN, Commodore Builders, Mt. Ida College, and Belmont Savings Bank. Photos from the event can be seen at newtv.org/25photos.

    Street Sweat: FREE Fitness Classes at The Street

    The Street announces the return of its popular outdoor fitness series, Street Sweat, which will feature complimentary fitness classes every Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday beginning June 5, 2016 and running through mid September.
    Street Sweat: FREE Fitness Classes at The Street
    All Street Sweat events are free, open to the public, and hosted on The Green at The Street, adjacent to lululemon athletica. The Street is located at 55 Boylston Street, Chestnut Hill, MA.
    The 2016 Street Sweat series is marked by two exciting new offerings, Kick It By Eliza, a high-energy kickboxing/cardio workout created by locally loved instructor Eliza Shirazi, andPilates & Sculpt, a Yoga-Pilates fusion class led by Healthworks Fitness Center that uses resistance bands to sculpt participants’ glutes, abs, and triceps. The Street will also welcome back the ever popular, Strollfit by Baby Boot Camp and Yoga on The Green.
    In addition to being complimentary, select classes will be enhanced by a live DJ and all classes will offer fun giveaways, ranging from Street Sweat tank tops and towels to products from retailers found at The Street like skoah, Juice Press, and Splendid.
    To secure a spot and find further details, participants are encouraged to sign up for Street Sweat classes using MoveWith.
    The weekly Street Sweat schedule is as follows:
    Tuesdays @ 7pm: Cardio Kickboxing with Kick It by Eliza
    A 45-minute high-energy class led by creator Eliza Shirazi,  Kick It™ is a 13-round fitness method that is music-driven, sweat-inducing, and kickboxing-inspired.

    Wednesdays @ 10am: Pilates & Sculpt with Healthworks Fitness Center;
    A 60-minute Yoga-Pilates fusion class with Stacey Grant that uses resistance bands for total-body sculpting while specifically focusing on glutes, abs, and triceps.

    Thursdays @ 9:30am: Strollfit with Baby Boot Camp
    A 60-minute class for all fitness levels: pregnant moms, new moms recovering from pregnancy and conditioned moms with one or two stroller-aged children. It includes cardio drills, strength training exercises and stretching to increase overall fitness, and concludes with an ab assault for a total body workout.

    Saturdays @ 10am: Cardio Kickboxing with Kick It by Eliza
    A 45-minute high-energy class led by creator Eliza Shirazi,  Kick It™ is a 13-round fitness method that is music-driven, sweat-inducing, and kickboxing-inspired.

    Sundays @ 10am: Yoga on The Green
    All levels welcome at this 60-minute summertime favorite, led by some of Boston’s top yoga instructors. Yogis can lay down their own mat or borrow one from lululemon athletica.
