    MiniLuxe Opens at The Street

MiniLuxe has opened the doors to its newest location at The Street. The innovative provider of nail and waxing services, with a focus on hygiene, quality, and fashion-inspired styles, now has a total of 14 locations across the U.S. – 12 in Massachusetts, one in Rhode Island and two in Texas.

MINILUXE IS NOW OPEN AT THE STREET

MiniLuxe at The Street spans two floors and totals nearly two thousand square feet. The new location debuts The Color Runway, from which guests can select seasonal polish hues in a variety of formulations, including wet polish, hybrid polish (a new, long-lasting gel alternative), and long-lasting gel. MiniLuxe’s own line of polishes are “five free,” meaning they do not contain the most notorious chemicals commonly used in nail polish: dibutyl phthalate, toluene, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, and camphor.

Noteworthy décor highlights include rose gold lighting accents and specially commissioned prints by fashion-famous illustrator Anja Kroencke. The salon has ten stations for manicures and six stations for pedicures, as well as a Groom Room, offering facial and body waxing services. MiniLuxe’s hallmark Clean Lab presides over the lower level; a steady pace of activity is visible within its plum-colored glass picture window. At MiniLuxe, all tools are either gifted to the guests after use, or made of surgical steel and undergo a three-step sterilization process in the Clean Lab: hand-scrubbing, ultrasonic debris removal, and hospital-grade autoclaving.

MiniLuxe has been the recipient of numerous accolades, including the perennial  “Best of Boston” award from Boston magazine. It has also been likened to “the Starbucks of the nail industry” and praised by NPR, Forbes and The New York Times for its innovation across hygiene, service quality, and labor standards.

MiniLuxe at The Street is located at 23 Boylston Street, Newton, MA. It is open seven days a week: Monday-Saturday: 8am-9pm and Sunday 9am-8pm. Appointments may be booked online at www.MiniLuxe.com or by phone at 617-379-0270. Follow along on social media via @miniluxe & #miniluxe

Preschool to Kindergarten: Is Your Child Ready? How do You Know?

As a parent of a preschooler, you have so many questions about the next step in your child’s educational and developmental journey:

    • How can I tell if my child is ready for pre-K or kindergarten?
    • How do I choose the best fit for my child’s learning style and personality, when both are still emerging?
    • What can I do to nurture his/her readiness to transition from preschool to school?

Join us on Wednesday, April 27, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., for coffee and conversation with early childhood development expert Carol Kinlan. Carol is a leading educational consultant with McMillan, Howland & Spence of Boston, and specializes in helping parents of children ages two through six navigate their child’s early educational path.

    You Will Learn:

    • The five signs your child is ready to move from preschool to pre-K or kindergarten
    • The keys to preparing your child for the next step in his/her educational journey
    • How to choose the pre-K or kindergarten that is the best fit for your child and your family

Following the discussion, you will have the opportunity to tour Fessenden’s Pre-K/K center, talk to teachers, and see the students in action. We know how busy parents of young children are, so this part of the program is completely optional.

7 Signs Your Teen is Suffering From Depression

A smartphone in the hands of a teenager or young child can encourage impulsivity, TeenSafe, one of the most popular parental monitoring technology services, provides the tools necessary to assist parents in detecting issues before they turn into serious problems.

One of the top signs of depression among teens is addition to the Internet, which leads to more isolated screen time, especially with the Internet being so accessible via mobile phones. Below is a roundup of signs a teen may be suffering from depression, as well as visual representation through this infographic:

Seven Signs Your Teen Is Suffering From Depression

    1. Addicted to the Internet – Kids may go online to escape their problems, but excessive computer/mobile use and screen time only increases their isolation, making them more depressed with feelings of sadness and hopelessness.

    1. Jokes About Committing Suicide – Kids who talk or joke about committing suicide may be suffering from depression. Your teen may be writing comments on social media saying things like “I’d be better off dead.”

    1. Has Violent Outburst – Violence is most common in kids (especially teenagers) who are victims of cyberbullying. Their self-hatred can develop into homicidal rage.

    1. Becomes Reckless – Depressed teenagers may engage in dangerous or high-risk behavior, such as reckless driving, out-of-control drinking and unsafe sex.

    1. Loses Interest in Activities – Kids and teens who are depressed may lose interest in sports or activities they used to enjoy, because they have the reduced ability to function in events and social activities.

    1. Critical Comments – Depressed kids are overly sensitive to rejection and may make harsh critical comments about themselves. These feelings of worthlessness can stem from trouble in teenage relationships.
