Birthday wishes, birthday parties for homeless children
    PARTY COORDINATOR positions available:

We are recruiting volunteers for several new shelters in Dorchester, East Boston, Dedham, and Framingham. Party Coordinators (PC) make a one year commitment to throw one party per month at a shelter.

Time commitment is about 4-5 hours/month. You will get training and ongoing support from Birthday Wishes and you will bring birthday joy to lots of kids living in homeless shelters. This is a great opportunity for families, corporate groups, church//temple groups or individuals who have time to give back. For more information, please contact Sue Ross, sue@birthdaywishes.org.

  • The Newton Food Pantry Needs Volunteers

The Newton Food Pantry Needs Volunteers

The Newton Food Pantry needs volunteers who can deliver food to homebound clients ONCE a month.  Typically the volunteers pick food up at the pantry on any Wednesday throughout the month (best times 11:30-2:30), or the 3rd Saturday of each month (btw 10-12) because that is when the pantry is open and we have fresh food.

However, it is possible to pick food up on other days/times when the library is open as the library workers have a key to the pantry and you can fill up your shopping bags with food (mostly non-perishable).

The time commitment is probably only an hour a month.

If you are interested, please contact Tracie Longman, Co-President of Newton Food Pantry at NewtonFoodPantry@gmail.com.

    Thank you!

  • Fundraiser for Family Equality

    Fundraiser for Family Equality

Please join us for a cocktail reception at our home, and help us in our effort to end discrimination against LGBT families in this country.

    Fundraiser for Family Equality
    Saturday, June 21 – 6:008:00 p.m.
    2 Langley Rd.
    Arlington, MA
    RSVP – www.familyequality.org/arlington

All donations are tax deductible and will support the Family Equality Council. As gay parents, Tom and I are particularly interested in the work Family Equality Council is doing to end discrimination against LGBT people who are seeking to adopt children. With more than 104,000 children in the foster care system and eligible for adoption, some states and agencies continue to discriminate against LGBT people, who would make good parents, denying these children the chance for a safe, happy, and permanent home. Currently the organization is working to make the Every Child Deserves a Family Act a federal law in order to stop states and agencies from discriminating against LGBT families. The Council is also advancing adoption bills in Virginia, Utah, and Minnesota, states that currently make adoption by LGBT families illegal. For 30 years, Family Equality Council has connected, supported, and represented a community of LGBT families across the country. You can find out more about the Family Equality Council at FamilyEquality.org.

In the coming weeks, you’ll receive a separate e-mail invitation from Family Equality Council as well.  To RSVP, please go towww.familyequality.org/arlington. We hope that you’ll be able to join us on June 21.

    Sincerely,

    Mark & Tom

$1.2 Million Raised by Newton-Wellesley Hospital for Kids

    AT NEWTON-WELLESLEY HOSPITAL’S 15TH ANNUAL GALA

Over 750 guests gathered on Saturday, May 10th at the Westin Copley Place, Boston for Newton-Wellesley Hospital (NWH) Charitable Foundation’s 15th Annual Gala, “Helping Kids Spread their Wings,” raising a record-breaking $1.2 Million to benefit the Hospital’s Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Service.

The Gala Chairs were Sinesia and Bill Karol of Westwood. The evening, designed by Rafanelli Events, included cocktails and a silent auction, a live auction, fund-a-need appeal, dinner and dancing. Highlights of the evening included the surpise entrance by the three Red Sox World Championship trophies and a special performance by Michelle Chamuel, finalist in The Voice, who was born at Newton-Wellesley Hospital and premiered her latest single, The Lottery, to a spellbound crowd.

“The $1.2 Million raised by our Gala has enabled us to complete the goal of building a $5+ Million Endowment to help protect the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Service from budgetary pressures,” said Joan Archer, president, NWH Charitable Foundation. “We are so grateful to everyone who has supported this program and especially to those who joined with us on May. It was a very special evening to help take care of our kids when they need it the most.”

“Children and families are suffering in our community, but psychiatric illnesses are always treatable, frequently curable, and often preventable,” said Dr. Susan Swick, the Michael S. Jellinek, MD, Chair of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. “As other institutions have cut back or eliminated services, Newton-Wellesley Hospital has, in fact, been able to expand its program with our community’s generous philanthropic support. Families no longer need to suffer alone or in silence.”
