    Shop Newton Food Pantry

    The Newton Food Pantry, one of 3 food pantries located in Newton, provides food to any Newton resident who needs assistance putting food on their tables.

    Shoppers can visit the Newton Food Pantry, located in the basement of Newton City Hall (1000 Commonwealth Ave.) once a month throughout the year, and choose from a wonderful selection of healthy fresh vegetables and fruit, bread and pastries, frozen meats and fish, milk, eggs, yogurt, cheese and other dairy items, canned and boxed foods, and personal care products including: shampoo, soap, toilet paper, toothpaste, toothbrushes and laundry detergent.

    During the months of July and August, the Newton Food Pantry invites all Newton families with children to shop at our pantry TWICE a month.  The Newton Food Pantry is open every Wednesday from 1:30-5pm, and the 3rd Saturday of each month between 11am and noon.

    Old Quincy School for National Register of Historic Places

    CHSNE partnered with the Massachusetts Historical Commission and the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association of New England (CCBA) to register the Old Quincy School as the first site to the National Register of Historic Places to be nominated for its connection to the history of Chinese in Boston.

    Last week, CCBA approved the nomination (as the building owners), by a UNANIMOUS vote! We are grateful for CCBA’s leadership role and the strong showing of community support for this nomination.

    Next week, the Massachusetts Historical Commission’s State Review Board will review the nomination. This is a public meeting open to anyone interested. Please consider joining CHSNE to show your support for an inclusive history that tells the stories of all Americans.

    Join us for a Holiday Pop Up Market at Common Ground in Arlington (319 Broadway, Arlington, MA 02474).

    We can have 16 vendors and have a few spots left. We expect 150-200 people to attend.

    A client’s dog-pal went missing from their yard in West Newton last night and was MIA through the morning hours today. The pup’s Mom was called by the Quincy VCA  letting her know that they had her dog….

    Some additionally suspect information:
    My pal was brought in by two young men (possibly in their 20’s) who supposedly found him in someone’s yard.  Then, rather than bring him to the Newton Police / a Newton animal hospital, they opted to bring him back to Quincy with them.  Finally, somewhere along the way my pal’s ID tag “fell off”… yet his rabies tag was coincidentally still fully intact.
    Thankfully this pal of mine is microchipped. Although these chips do not serve a GPS-like function, it is in all likelihood the only reason my buddy wasn’t sold to some unsuspecting other family, who had no idea that they just purchased / adopted a stolen Samoyed. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if these “good samaritans” have a microchip scanner (purchasable on Amazon for under $100) and after learning that my pal is chipped, brought him to the VCA since he was not sellable after all.
    I am not trying to scare anyone….  On the other hand, if your pal is not yet microchipped please consider getting the procedure done!!  It is quick, inexpensive, and could truly save your buddy.

    Each month, The Street will partner with a different yoga studio for Yoga on The Green, with each instructor bringing their distinct style to the class. In June, YogaWorks will lead Yoga on The Green. In the event of rain, classes will be held indoors at lululemon.

    Manager of Parent Education
    The Manager of Parent Education is responsible for the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of PPLM’s parent education program, Let’s Be Honest/Seamos Honestos, which is designed to help parents and other caregivers create an environment of trust and comfort in talking with their children about sex and sexuality. They collaborate with education staff to deliver Get Real Parent Resources as a companion program to Get Real for middle and high school youth, and oversee the delivery of workshops on general sexual health information.  They are responsible for creating and teaching curriculum, for developing and maintaining community partnerships through marketing and outreach efforts and for collaborating with PPLM’s academic partners to implement an ongoing program evaluation process.  They will also be responsible for incorporating PPLM’s strategic plan goals into program planning and implementation to ensure that PPLM maintains a highly effective parent education program. Apply here today!
