Trick or Treat at The Prudential Center Shops

The Shops at Prudential Center, Boston, will host its annual Pru Boo indoor trick-or-treating and family fun event to benefit The Home for Little Wanderers on Sunday, October 27.

For the nineteenth year the Prudential Center will open its doors to hundreds of families from Greater Boston to enjoy “store-to-store” trick-or-treating, a performance by Vanessa Trien and The Jumping Monkeys as well as a variety of activities including:

Boston Ballet – Nutcracker costume/photo opportunity.

New England Aquarium –Tide Pool Open House! This program allows children to handle and observe a wide range of live tidal pool animals from local waters. Also, an appearance by one of NEAQ’s aquatic characters.

Magic Beans – Elmo character appearance (11-11:30AM and 12-12:30PM)

Museum of Science –Dinosaur activities, including Dino Size Me, a dinosaur math activity; dino facts; and make your own Dino puzzles or bookmarks.

NECCO –Craft activities using Necco candy.

Boston Duck Tours – Appearance by official mascot, Kilroy.

The Freedom Trail Foundation – Have your picture taken in the stocks! Learn more about The Freedom Trail.

As well as a number of other activities by Blue Man Group, Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum, Mary Baker Eddy Library, Microsoft, and Zipcar.

Schedule of Events

11:00am – 1:00pm: Trick-or-treat and children’s activities

2:00pm: Vanessa Trien and the Jumping Monkeys

With a $4 donation to The Home for Little Wanderers, participants receive a trick-or-treat bag that provides access to trick-or-treating at more than 50 stores and restaurants at the Prudential Center, along with other fun family-friendly activities.

Presenting sponsor, NECCO, The New England Confectionery Company, will provide all candy.

Trick-or-treat bags can be purchased at The Shops at Prudential Center’s Customer Service Desk starting October 1, and at check-in stations located in the Food Court and Center Court starting at 9am the day of the event.

Parking for the day is $16. Parking passes can be picked up at Pru Boo check-in stations.

Former Miss Massachusetts Now CEO Hosting Falling for Science 2013

The Discovery Museums are pleased to announce Falling for Science 2013, an annual fundraising party to benefit the museums, which will be held on Saturday, October 26 from 7:00 to 11:00pm. The evening will be hosted by Dr. Erika Ebbel Angle, founder and chairman of Science from Scientists and CEO of Counterpoint Health Solutions, and a former Miss Massachusetts.

This year’s event—just for grownups—will be held at the Science Discovery Museum and will feature prizes, music, open bar and food. Tickets are $125 per person or $225 for two and may be purchased in advance or by calling 978-264-4200 ext. 13 or emailing eisen@discoverymuseums.org. This is a 21 and older event; space is limited and tickets will be held at the door.

About Dr. Erika Ebbel Angle

Erika Ebbel Angle earned her Ph. D. in Biochemistry from Boston University School of Medicine in 2012. She is a 2004 graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she majored in Chemistry and minored in music. In 2003 she was nominated as a recipient of the United States Achievement Academy National Sciences Award, and has been inducted into two honor societies at MIT. In 2002 Erika founded what would become Science from Scientists. In 2007, Erika was selected by L’Oreal Paris as a Woman of Worth for her work with Science from Scientists and was featured on Lifetime TV.

She is the host of “The Dr. Erika Show”, an educational science TV show for children. Erika has served as a commissioner for the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women and is currently serving on a sub-committee of the Massachusetts Governor’s STEM Council. Erika was Miss Massachusetts 2004 in the Miss America Scholarship Program. She has appeared on Nova and TLC in shows such as “The Secret Lives of Scientists and Engineers.”

The Discovery Museums are celebrating 30 years of inspiring curiosity. The two museums—the Children’s Discovery Museum for ages 0-6 and the Science Discovery Museum for kids of all ages—are the children’s and science museums of MetroWest Boston, paired on a single 4.5-acre campus in Acton, MA. FREE Opera for Kids! Mooch the Messy

This Columbus Day Weekend, The Boston Conservatory is offering the opportunity to introduce your children to opera in a way they’ll truly enjoy, for free! For the second time this year, The Conservatory is presenting the children’s opera Mooch the Messy.

The show is specifically recommended for preschool and elementary school-aged children. It’s based on the 1979 book by Marjorie Weinman Sharmat and tells the story of Mooch, a rat from Boston, who learns about neatness and responsibility when his father comes for a visit. He also learns to be himself in a delightful mix of humor, music and fun.

You can see Mooch the Messy Saturday, October 12^th at 12 p.m. or 2 p.m. at The Boston Conservatory’s newly renovated Seully Hall, located at 8 The Fenway in Boston. You can also catch special showings on Monday, October 14^th (Columbus Day) at the Boston Children’s Museum at 11 a.m. or 12 p.m. The Conservatory show is free; and the museum show is free with the purchase of admission.

The Needham Craft Fair & Silent Auction is an enormously popular shopping event combining a juried craft show along with a silent auction. Each year, the event draws savvy shoppers and generous bidders from all over Massachusetts.

The Needham Craft Fair is hosted at the Needham High school every year near the end of October. Come explore over 100 selected exhibitors from towns in MA and the surrounding states and see an extensive array of beautiful and unique fashions, gifts, home goods, body products and more.
