Incredible Writing Tutor & Guitar Teacher Available!

Posting for my daughter’s boyfriend. He’s an incredible writer and can help with college application essays or tutor in English essay writing. He also gives guitar lessons.Ben Cunningham Brown University Bogus Rex

Hi! My name is Ben, and I am a Brown University alumni. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA with a double major in English and Music. While at Brown, I won two first-place Preston Gurney prizes— Cultural Criticism and Literary Criticism—awarded to the best undergraduate senior essays in each subject.

I was also the Editorial Director at WBRU, an editor at the Brown Political Review, and TA’d music production courses. I attended The Lawrenceville School (top 10 high schools nationwide) where I won the fifth form English Prize, received the Emerson Prize for a published paper in the Concord Review, and scored 1590 on my SAT. I currently work part-time at a documentary studio as a Writing Assistant for two Emmy-nominated directors.

I mentor students on private/boarding, undergraduate, and graduate school application essays. I can also tutor students in essay writing and research in English, history, political science, poetry, and film.

In my free time, I play in two indie-rock bands, Bogus Rex and The Rug (on Spotify and Apple Music), performing around the New York area. I have experience teaching beginner/intermediate guitar, songwriting, and music production for small groups and individuals.

I am available both on Zoom and can travel around the Williamsburg/NYC area.

Please reach out if you’re interested – my email is benjamin_cunningham@alumni.brown.edu

    Thank you!

    GBH Kids Scriptwriting Fellowship

The GBH Kids Scriptwriting Fellowship is a program designed to mentor early-career writers, who are members of underrepresented groups in the greater children’s media industry (including individuals of African American, Asian, Latinx/Hispanic, Native American, and Pacific Islander descent), in writing scripts for a GBH KIDS animated series focused on STEM learning. The goal is to diversify the pipeline of writers for both this show, and the greater children’s media industry with a hands-on learning experience in television writing for children and an opportunity for their scripts to be produced for this new series.

  • Slammin’ Sunday Circuits this Sunday: 7/19, 9 am in Nonantum

Slammin’ Sunday Circuits this Sunday: 7/19, 9 am in Nonantum

    Slammin’ Sunday Circuits with Suzanne

    When: 9 am, Sunday, 7/19

Where: 417 Watertown St. (you can park on the street in front or, if you pull back to the parking area, park on the right side next to my white Chevy. Note, I have some new neighbors in the back unit, so they may have a couple of the parking spots.

Format: Warm-up; 8 stations using bands, agility ladder, jump ropes, TRX, etc. – 1 minute at each station with 30-second rest (3 rounds). If we have time, we’ll finish with some abs or an extra cardio HIIT session.

Note: I have a couple of new kettlebells to throw into the mix! 😀💪💪

What to bring: Water bottle, face covering, your own jump rope (if you have one that you prefer)

Cost: $10 cash (unless you already have a pre-paid package).

Safety: I will provide disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer, and disposable gloves (if requested). Even though this is an outdoor workout, I do ask that everyone where a face covering. Because we are sharing equipment and because aerosol droplets released during heavy breathing (such as when you’re working out) can carry up to 12 feet, I choose to err on the side of caution for everyone’s safety.

I encourage you to pace yourself and to step away and take a few breaths without your mask between sets.

For more advice on how to safely breathe with a mask, you can check out this YouTube webinar from Patrick McKeown from the Oxygen Advantage; Patrick trains professional and elite athletes how to optimize oxygen use through breathing techniques, which includes working with masks and altitude training.

  • WGBH Family Event: Day of Exploration

WGBH Family Event: Day of Exploration

Unfortunately, because of the very hands-on, personally interactive nature of this event, we have decided that for everyone’s health and safety we will cancel the event.

On Saturday, March 14, WGBH will host the second annual Day of Exploration, a kids and family event featuring a range of activities, craft projects, costumed characters, music and more at WGBH’s Brighton studios.

As a part of WGBH’s mission for accessibility, the event will feature a sensory-friendly hour from 10-11 am, designed for guests with special needs and sensory-friendly preferences.

From 11 am-1 pm and 1-3 pm will be two separate general admission sessions for $10 per person (or $30 for a family of four). The event was a hit last year and we are excited to bring it back with even more to offer.

You can find more details here, and tickets can be purchased at this link.

New Music and Puppet Theater at First Church Boston

Dinosaur Annex pairs new music with puppet theater to tell traditional stories through a contemporary lens

On Friday, March 6, 2020 at 7:30pm, Boston-based Dinosaur Annex Music Ensemble presents Untold //New Music and Puppet Theater at First Church Boston. This concert features music and storytelling through puppetry, drawing inspiration from traditional cultural sources with a modern perspective.

Composer Bahar Royaee and shadow puppet artist, Deniz Khateri, are an Iranian artistic duo who derive elements from their traditional and modern art forms to address contemporary issues around immigration, diaspora, and feminism. They will bring Leylie to life with shadow and light – a feminist telling of the Persian folktale of Majnoun and Leylie, through the perspective of the female protagonist, giving Leylie a platform to reclaim her story.

Puppeteer Anna Wang joins forces with composer and co-artistic director Hubert Ho to premiere Filial, a new work based on 13th-century Confucian Filial Exemplars, ancient Chinese parables intended to model children’s proper behavior towards the parental generation and beyond. These texts are paired with reflections of filial identity in contemporary Asian-American experience.

This program features musicians from Dinosaur Annex Music Ensemble, led by Tiffany Chang, conductor, and featuring co-artistic director Felicia Chen, voice.

When: Friday, March 6, 7:30 pm
Where: First Church Boston, 66 Marlborough Street
    Cost: $25 general / $15 students & seniors

  • FREE Monthly Science Experiment Club for 3rd-5th Grade from Peirce Student

FREE Monthly Science Experiment Club for 3rd-5th Grade from Peirce Student

    Hi everyone,

My name is Sidnie Kulik. I am 16 and I am going into my junior year at the Noble and Greenough School. Before, I attended Peirce Elementary School and F. A. Day Middle School before high school.

I am writing in order to tell you about a fun and free opportunity I am holding for kids from 3rd-5th grade. I am going to hold a monthly science experiment club.

This past year I ran a successful book club for 3rd and 4th graders. I loved teaching and working with the kids, but decided that I should focus on science instead for a few reasons.

First, it is important to expose children to different subject matters. Second, it is easier for both the parent and the kid to not have to purchase and read the assigned book before meeting. Third, science is my favorite subject and I hope to share this passion with children.

Please contact me at sidniekulik8888@gmail.com if your child is interested. You can also find out more by looking at my social media page @scienceandkids on Instagram.

Also please spread the word to anyone that you think would be interested. The more the merrier!

    Sincerely,

    Sidnie
