Hi everyone! My name is Sidnie Kulik and I am really excited to have the opportunity to run a book club for elementary school students. I feel passionately about this club because I have grown a strong affinity for reading throughout my years at school. Like many students, I was not always super intrigued by the thought of reading. I always thought of it as another school assignment, but as I grew up and started to read more I realized how much I loved the activity. I saw it as an opportunity to connect with others, learn more about the world, and found reading to be very entertaining. I hope to get your child to enjoy to read, at least a little bit, but I am also looking forward to working with elementary aged kids, as I have an awesome cousin that is this age. If you are interested please contact me to sign up before the start of the school year, I will provide more details and information from there. Thank you and I hope to have the opportunity to meet, speak, and read with your children!

  • Art Classes for Kids & Adults with Amy Nichols

Art Classes for Kids & Adults with Amy Nichols

My high school daughter has taken classes with Amy for five years and my daughter raves about her. What is great about Amy is that she encourages creativity in a gentle way, creating a safe space for kids to express themselves.

Because she graduated from a highly competitive art school (Cooper Union had a 6% acceptance rate when she attended because it was 100% free tuition), she also understands what it takes to create a portfolio for kids who want to attend art school.

A mother of two kids, she is really great at relating to kids. Her students tend to stay with her until they graduate high school and go off to college, but come back to visit her when they are home. She’s that kind of teacher!

  • Summer resources for middle schoolers available online

Summer resources for middle schoolers available online

All young people benefit from out-of-school activities that help them grow and learn, yet middle school is an age when student participation tends to decrease. The City of Newton’s Executive Office, Health and Human Services Department. and Newton Public Schools are currently working on promoting out-of-school time for middle schoolers. In the early stages of this work they have created a webpage to help families find summer options for their middle schooler, as well as provide other valuable information like financial aid tips.

They will be adding more to the webpage in the coming months but with summer coming up, they wanted to share their initial resources. Feedback and ideas are welcome.
