    The Concord Museum is honored to present Dr. Richard Ferber for a lecture and book-signing at The Fenn School (516 Monument Street, Concord) on Thursday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m.

    Sleep expert Dr. Ferber explores the latest sleep techniques for babies and young children. Dr. Ferber is an associate professor of Neurology at the Harvard Medical School and Director of the Center for Pediatric Sleep Disorders at Children’s Hospital in Boston. He is currently on the editorial board of the journal Sleep and is an associate editor of Sleep Medicine. Solve your child’s Sleep Problems by Dr. Richard Ferber will be available for purchase and the lecture will be followed by a book-signing.
    Parents, caregivers, and grandparents throughout the ages have struggled with sleep deprivation and sleeping issues in infants and toddlers. This is a rare opportunity to learn about the often controversially perceived Ferber Method by its’ author.     This presentation is in conjunction with two ongoing special exhibits open at the Concord Museum:
    Behind Closed Doors:Asleep in New England (open through March 22, 2015) uncovers the complex role sleep has played in everyday life throughout American history. This theme will be carried beyond the gallery and throughout the Concord Museum’s period rooms where visitors can get a sense of how the objects were employed.

    Good Night, Sleep Tight: Art from Children’s Literature (open through May 3, 2015) an exhibition of original children’s book illustrations related to sleep, nighttime, going to bed, dreams, and lullabies. The exhibition features the art of approximately 20 illustrators. The work of Tomie dePaola, Salley Mavor, Melissa Sweet, Ilse Plume, Pamela Zagarenski, Beth Krommes, and Peter Reynolds, among others, are on display. Also included in the exhibition is a Frank Thayer Merrill illustration from the Roberts Brothers 1880 edition of Little Women. Bring the kids!
    This event is FREE, but pre-registration is required by visiting concordmuseum.org or by calling (978) 369-9763, ext. 216.  Parking can be limited at the Fenn School so carpooling is encouraged.
    Behind Closed Doors: Asleep in New England is open through March 24, 2015 and Good Night, Sleep Tight: Art from Children’s Literature is open through May 3, 2015.

    MUSEUM ADMISSION: General admission to the Museum is $10 for adults, $8 Seniors (62 & over), $8 Students with valid id, $5 Youth 6-18. Members and children under 6 are free.
    DIRECTIONS: The Concord Museum is easily accessible from Route 495 or Route 128 and Route 2 and is located at the intersection of Lexington Road and Cambridge Turnpike, ¼ mile east of Concord Center. The Museum’s entrance is on Cambridge Turnpike; parking is free. The Museum is wheelchair accessible.

    Mt. Ida College President to Speak at Rotary Club

    Barry Brown was unanimously chosen to serve as President February 2012. A highly distinguished professor, higher educational administrator, and lawyer, Mr. Brown brings a deep-rooted commitment to excellence in higher education. Previously, Mr. Brown was Provost and Acting President of Suffolk University. These appointments followed a university teaching career of over 35 years in which he has taught courses in Property Law, Biomedical Law and Public Policy and Professional Responsibility.

    A life-long resident of Newton, Massachusetts, Mr. Brown received an A.B. from Harvard College and Ed.M. from Harvard Graduate School of Education and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. He is involved with a variety of professional organizations, including the Massachusetts Pre-paid Legal Services Board, the Board of Directors of the Samaritans, and the Board of Directors of the Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce.

    PRU BOO Trick-or-Treat for Charity

    The Shops at Prudential Center’s 20th Annual PRU BOO Trick-or-Treat for Charity

    The annual event has raised over $40,000 for local charities

    The Shops at Prudential Center, Boston, will host its annual PRU BOO indoor trick-or-treating and family fun event on Sunday, October 26. The event will benefit Catching Joy, a non-profit organization that promotes volunteerism beginning with young children and their families.

    This year marks the 20th anniversary the event.  Since the first PRU BOO in 1994, The Shops at Prudential Center has distributed 300,000 pieces of candy to over 20,000 kids. The event has also raised over $40,000 for local charities.

    PRU BOO Trick-or-Treat for Charity

    The Shops at Prudential Center will open its doors at 11am to hundreds of families from Greater Boston to enjoy “store-to-store” trick-or-treating, pop-up magic shows, a performance by Stacey Peasley as well as a variety of family-friendly activities provided by some of Boston top attractions, including New England Aquarium, Boston Duck Tours, Blue Man Group, Museum of Science, The Freedom Trail Foundation, The Mary Baker Eddy Library, and more!

    Schedule of Events

    1:45pm:                                Performance by Stacey Peasley (Food Court)

    With a $4 donation to Catching Joy, participants receive a trick-or-treat bag that provides access to trick-or-treating at more than 50 stores and restaurants at Prudential Center, along with other fun family-friendly activities. Presenting sponsor, NECCO, The New England Confectionery Company, will provide all candy.

    Trick-or-treat bags can be purchased at The Shops at Prudential Center’s Customer Service Desk starting October 1, and at check-in stations located in the Food Court and Center Court starting at 9am the day of the event.

    Parking for the day is $16. Parking passes can be picked up at PRU BOO check-in stations.

    These drop-in art and theatre workshops offer the opportunity for families to experiment with paint, paper and collage to create works of art together.

    Children can also explore the creative world of theatre games with the talented staff of Watertown Children’s Theatre. Different projects and games will be offered each time.

    Chef Paul Turano Hosts Approachable Cooking Class at the Boston Center for Adult Education

    WHAT:            On Monday, October 27th, 2014 Chef/Owner Paul Turano of Cook located in Newton, MA will join the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE) for a one session cooking class, “Anyone Can Cook” from 6:00 PM-9:00 PM.

    The award-winning restaurateur is known for his approachable dishes, and in this class he will show students that not only can anyone enjoy food, anyone can cook it! This class will eliminate the intimidation factor that is often seen in this new dining culture, offering students the chance to enjoy whipping up fun and unpretentious dishes sure to wow friends and family.
