Newton makes Top 10 Best Suburbs in America according to Movoto. Their study was based on the following desirable factors:
-Amenities
-Cost of Living
-Crime
-Education
-Employment
With a cost of living nearly 60 percent higher than the national average, Newton might not be cheap, but it is a great place to live.
Boston, MA suburb Newton, with 85,146 who call it home, is the second-safest city in our top 10. Its 147 crimes per 10k residents make it 53 percent safer than the national average and 32 percent lower than the Massachusetts average. Violent crimes are 78 percent lower in Newton than the average for the rest of the state.
The cost of living in Newton, on the other hand, is quite high—61.8 percent higher than the national average, which makes it second only to Cupertino in terms of how expensive it is to live in. An unemployment rate less than 4 percent helps, though, as does a $107,696 median household income which is 105.8 percent higher than the U.S. average. In terms of schools, Newton has one of the best student-teacher ratios in our top 10 at 11-to-1.
The top 10 suburbs are:
1. Westerville, OH
2. Plano, TX
3. Georgetown, TX
4. Round Rock, TX
5. Cedar Park, TX
6. Cupertino, CA
7. Matthews, NC
8. Cornelius, NC
9. Newton, MA
10. Germantown, TN

You are invited to a really terrific workshop that my friend Linda Sanchez helped to create on November 14 (evening) through 19.
It is offered by the Pathways Institute. She took the same workshop in July and the experience transformed her relationship (which was her personal goal, not what everyone else there was seeking). And she gained some startling insights into how other people perceive her.
It was such a valuable experience that she signed up for another course, which involves producing this next workshop.
It is an experiential program, with some eastern philosophy, a flow of exercises and activities, including meditation, to help you focus on what inspires and motivates you, and how to create what you long for in your life. The practices are very much centered on your heart, and moving toward what we want to have in our lives.
If this resonates with you or piques your interest at all, please call Linda. She can help you enroll with a discount code valid through Wednesday, October 31.

Mark Goodman, a local Waban resident, is the creator of a compelling new workout called Cardio High. It recreates the intensity and benefits you receive from playing sports but with a reduced risk of injury and less strain on joints.
Mark was inspired to create Cardio High after reading studies that show brief intense training, like the 7-minute workout featured in the New York Times, improves fitness better than longer activities such as jogging or cycling. These high intensity workouts help burn fat for up to 36 hours after each session.
The Cardio High program is set up as a combination of low impact movements with high intensity interval training (HIIT), which means you’re boosting your heart rate without the soreness and strain. Also, as an active squash, tennis, and Ultimate Frisbee player, Mark was determined to make this method both varied and fun. This has led his clients to report feeling more energy, improved sports performance, and better muscle tone after only a few weeks of training.
The Cardio High program can be adapted to many levels of fitness, including athletes training for a sport or those who want to lose weight but feel they’re too out of shape and injury-prone to get a good workout.
Mark runs small groups and private sessions at a couple locations in Newton including at the Windsor Club in Waban. To try a free session call (617)564-3764 or E-mail mark@cardiohigh.com for more information.

The Top 10 from Livability. They didn’t really account of ratio of median household income to median home price; i.e. affordability so I calculated it and added it.
Personally, I love Palo Alto but it’s the least affordable. The wild gyration of median household income to median home price speaks to the town’s two sides of the tracks. East Palo Alto versus the rest of Palo Alto. If you remove East Palo Alto from the numbers, I’m sure the median income goes up but the median home price goes up even higher.
Rochester, Minnesota has the best ratio but alas, not the best weather. Durham is looking like a great place to retire to with decent weather and an even better ratio.
And what about Rockville? Don’t go back to Rockville? Or maybe, actually, you should!
As for Newton, MA, it may be #68th on this list, but it’s #4 on the Money list!
