Dawn Davis Yoga Classes Go Virtual and her free classes online

    From Dawn Davis:

I was initially intimidated by Zoom. But, it is actually more accessible than I thought it would be. There are many beautiful aspects of the virtual yoga at home, including that you get to practice in your pajamas (!), and other family members can join in. Furthermore, we are donating 10% of all revenue to support the work of The Second Step. And the feeling of community is present, and unique in that we are actually all in your living room with you!

    Here’s how it works:
    1. Sign in to your Mindbody online account from www.dawndavis.com (if you haven’t done this before, please let me know and I’ll send you a password; If mindbody acts like you’re new—and if you’re getting this note, then you are not new–that means we need to get you a password in order for you to access your account. I can help, just email me).
    2. After you sign up for each class, Mindbody will send you an email with registration link to the class on Zoom.
    3. Download Zoom on the device you’ll be practicing on.
    4. Then click on the link from mindbody to register for the class
    5. Zoom sends an email that will drop you into the class!

It’s definitely a few steps but hopefully will feel straightforward.

If you want to have music, please bring that in the room with you as the vocals over zoom are good for voices, not great for music. Once class starts, I’ll mute everyone so we can each have our own jam and it won’t be heard by other yogis.

You can access free yoga videos and meditations on Dawn Davis Yoga Channel.

Dawn Davis FREE Yoga Video for Shoulders

My awesome yoga teacher, Dawn Davis Yoga, is off to Italy on vacation so there is no yoga for the month of August. She left us this free yoga routine and I thought I’d share with you!

    Here’s her message:

Check out the link to the free yoga video below!
My hope is you are resting, restoring and rejuvenating! My vision is that you are each having a blast taking in all those little moments that string together to create meaning and joy for you and those you hold dearest to your heart.

And as promised, here is another gift of yoga for you! Thank you to the wonderful yogis who participated in the making of this as well as to Justin Knight for videoing!

Looking forward to reconnecting in September! (Sept. 5, to be exact, is the day we resume classes at The beautiful Windsor Club!).

So, here’s the thing– I haven’t had a chance to figure out how to edit this stuff yet, so this is raw footage. That means that around minute 4, you’ll see the shot is just of our torsos (this lasts for a couple minutes) and then it returns to what you’d expect to see. It might not be too distracting as you’ll be practicing while it happens, but it’s there! My apologies for sending something not entirely polished– but I felt you’d prefer to have the raw version now than wait till I figure this technological stuff out (which apparently, can take a while!)

Without further ado, I bring you Shoulders! Enjoy and please send me any feedback you think might be helpful for us!

YogaBox: Try FREE Class at Open House

    What is YogaBox?

It’s a new fitness concept developed at Nonantum Boxing Club to combine the cardio and strengthening workout of a boxing workout with the core workout and stretching of yoga.

    YogaBox, Dawn Davis

    Why combine Yoga with Boxing?

Boxing actually has a lot in common with yoga. Both are all about the breath. You need to be able to control your breath in the ring to sustain your energy just as in yoga, the breath is what the practice is ultimately about.

Both yoga and boxing work the core muscles. The power for boxing punches doesn’t come from arms and shoulders; it’s actually from the core muscles in the lower body turning to create force. In yoga, core muscles are utilized in every pose.

What you will get out of a YogaBox workout:

    • strengthening
    • cardio vascular
    • stretching
    • core workout
    • abdominal workout
    • boxing skills
    • yoga poses (Vinyasa Flow Yoga)
    • fun
    • friendly and inviting atmosphere
    • No boxing or yoga experience necessary

    Who is Teaching YogaBox?

It’s taught by the two best fitness instructors in their field! The YogaBox class is carefully constructed so that the yoga and boxing complement each other. The yoga routine designed by Dawn Davis who spent the last year learning to box, focuses on core strengthening as well as stretching the muscles used during the boxing workout. Marc Gargaro’s boxing workout will make you sweat.

    Great Yoga Class in Newton

    Yoga in Newton

I recently discovered a great unheated Vinyasa yoga class in Newton at The Windsor Club taught by Dawn Davis. I had been taking yoga for years from my dear friend Bea Abascal of Hola Yoga. Alas, she is on hiatus right now so I went searching for something similar. My mom friend Katherine told me about her friend Dawn who taught a yoga class in Waban.

Small world. Dawn trained up Coeli Marsh with my friend Bea so, of course, they are friends and their teaching styles are similar. I took many, many classes with Coeli when she taught at Inner Strength. I think she’s wonderful. I also like Claire and Rebecca if that helps you yogis decide if we like the same style of yoga instruction!

Two of my yogi mom friends who have been going to Bea’s class came to try out Dawn’s class. Our assessment: she’s perfect. We like her flow. It’s slow but challenging. There’s lots of core work.

We like her message. It’s not too new age-y but she’s also inspirational.

We like the space. The Windsor Club’s room is HUGE and she only allows about 30 people so there is about a one foot perimeter around your yoga mat. There is also plenty of free parking.

She just added a second class on Fridays!

Mid-week Wednesday stress buster and Friday Fuel-Up to start your weekend on the right foot!

    Wednesdays and Fridays
    9:30-10:30 am
    The Windsor Club

    $15 drop in
    $70 5-pack of classes
    $135 10-pack of classes
    Remember that passes never expire.
    First class is free

    The Details:

    • Location: The Windsor Club in Waban
    • Time:  9:30 – 10:30 am
    • Day: Wednesdays
    • Cost: $15 drop in, first class free.
    • Sign up: email her first to reserve your spot. yoga@dawndavis.com. If you end up not going, you don’t have to pay. It’s just a headcount for her. She doesn’t like the room to be too full. We get at least 1 foot around the yoga mat for breathing space!
    • Yoga Style: Unheated Vinyasa
    • Difficulty Level: For all levels. The flow is slow but the poses are held for a decent length (read: burning muscles!). Lots of core work too!

    See you on the mat!
