    Bullough’s Pond Fair

    All are invited to the second annual Bullough’s Pond Fair located on picturesque Bullough’s Pond in Newtonville. Sponsored by the Bullough’s Pond Association, there are free activities for the whole family to enjoy. The Fair will feature family-oriented activities including guided bird watching at 8:30 am, a fly-fishing demonstration at 9:00 am, en plein air painting lesson at 9:30 am, model yacht regatta at 10:00 am, children’s activities and rubber duck race at 10:30, sponsored kayak race at 11:20, live music, snacks and more.

    Newtonville Village Day & Jazz Festival

    Discover Newtonville, and all its merchants and businesses that will open their doors to welcome neighbors and visitors!  Walnut Street in Newtonville will be closed to traffic and transformed into a lively street fair. With two sound stages, a Roaming Railroad for kiddie rides, 100 craft booths and informational stands, an Open House at the Norumbega Fraternity Lodge of Masons featuring a bounce house and carnival games and fun activities for kids, there is something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

    The Senior Center Sound Stage features a talented line-up of jazz musicians, sponsored by New England Jazz Productions. The Austin Street Sound Stage will also delight the crowds with an afternoon of performances by local dance studios, martial arts demonstrations and local young musicians.

    Bolts Junior Academy for Kids Ages 5 to 10 in Newton

    Bolts Junior Academy begins in September with sessions run by Bolts Executive Director of Coaching, Brian Ainscough, Boys Director, Chris Payne and Pre Academy Coach Andrew Greiner. This year, we offer multiple locations for Junior Academy from Newton, Revere and Central Mass.  More information is being posted on our website this week. If you have any siblings or young soccer players interested please encourage them to sign up!

    Join the MSPCA for a unique story time experience.  Volunteers read animal themed stories to toddlers and preschool children, play games, and sing songs.  After the stories, the volunteers bring out a few of the shelter’s animals to interact with the children.  Kids can color with crayons, play with playdough, do puzzles, or read books while waiting their turn to see the animals.

    When: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM every Wednesday

    Education and Training Room at MSPCA

    The Boston Animal Care and Adoption Center Education Room has its own entrance at the back of the MSPCA building. To get to the entrance drive past the first parking lot on your right when you enter the driveway. Follow the driveway until it ends and bear left. Continue past the first set of double doors to the Angell Animal Medical Center and past the second set of double doors which is the main adoption center entrance. Take a left at the end of the parking lot and you will see a set of gray stairs and railing leading up to the Education Room entrance.

    What We Read

    The stories we read include fiction, non-fiction, and poetry.  Many have been awarded the Henry Bergh Children’s Book Award, which honors books that promote the humane ethic of compassion and respect for all living things.  If you have a great book in mind for the “Little Bookworms” story time, please share it with us!

    Friday Fun Day at Stone Zoo!

    Visit Stone Zoo on Friday, August 22 for some Friday Fun!

    The first 50 children will receive a voucher for a FREE ride on the monkey barrel ride or the children’s train ride. Please note that ride availability is weather permitting.

    JCC Arts and Fitness Fall Classes

    Arts and Fitness Classes this Fall at JCC

    Registration is underway for fall classes at the Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center (333 Nahanton Street) in Newton.

    Classes begin during the week of September 14 and are open to the entire community. Classes for children include swim lessons, basketball, soccer, Taekwondo, dance, gymnastics, handwriting, LEGO League and musical theatre.

    Classes for adults include Pilates, dance, Tai Chi, tennis, painting, drawing and Mah Jongg.
