    Fessenden Sports Camps Aug 18-22

    FESSENDEN SOCCER CAMP (Aug. 18-22 – 9a.m. – 3p.m.)

    Whether your son or daughter is just starting to learn the game of soccer, or playing travel or club soccer, the Fessenden Soccer Camp is uniquely qualified to handle a wide range of ages (6-15) and abilities. A few of the highlights of the Fessenden Soccer Camp include:

    • Ability appropriate instruction
    • Individualized instruction at each position (including goalies)
    • Instruction in individual soccer techniques and team tactics
    • Video training and coaches’ presentations daily
    • Lunchtime activities include, swimming, watching instructional soccer videos / movies or playing on the playground
    • Snacks (fruit & popsicles) will be provided during morning and afternoon breaks. Each camper may choose to bring their own lunch which will be refrigerated until lunchtime or they may purchase lunch. Hamburgers ($3), hot dogs ($2), chips ($1) and drinks ($1 or $2) will be for sale during lunchtime.

    Director:

    Caleb Thomson ‘79 began his soccer career as a student at the Fessenden School in the late 70’s. He played collegiate soccer at Ohio Wesleyan University after being selected to the All State team while playing at Suffield Academy. Caleb is currently Fessenden’s Varsity Soccer coach and has been a coach at the Soccer Camp since 1992. Caleb has also been coaching at the U14 level in the Newton Girls Soccer (NGS) program for the past four years, winning the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions (MTOC) in 2011. This fall, Caleb enters his fourth season as head coach of the newly established Newton U14 Academy team. Caleb has assembled an excellent lineup of experienced “school” soccer coaches from the Boston area who specialize in coaching both boys and girls in this particular age group.

    FESSENDEN AFTERNOON/EVENING FOOTBALL CLINIC (Aug. 25-28 – 4-7 p.m.)

    The coaching staff uses advanced football training techniques for both offense and defense with a limited contact approach. Participants (ages 10-15) will train each day, work hard, improve, make new friends, and have fun. Each athlete is encouraged to develop new skills and achieve a new level of play and self-confidence. All aspects of offense, defense and special teams will be covered to help develop their skills and enhance their interest in the game. A few of the highlights of the Fessenden Football Clinic include:

    • Superior football instruction in age and ability groupings
    • Special focus on nutrition, injury prevention, cross training and sportsmanship
    • Daily training to develop speed, strength and agility with a qualified staff
    • Timing and testing in a variety of drills
    • Exposure to secondary school coaches

    Steve Cincotta, Director of the Fessenden Afternoon/Evening Football Clinic, is a successful Fessenden football coach with over 30 years of experience. His program prides itself in preparing young men for a great secondary school football career.

    PHILOSOPHY:

    While still making each football practice fun, our coaching staff will step it up with this age group using more advanced football training techniques for both offenses and defense in a LIMITED CONTACT approach. All participants will have the opportunity to train each day, work hard, improve, make new friends, and have fun. Each athlete is encouraged to develop new skills and achieve a new level of play and self-confidence.     LOCATION:

    The Fessenden School varsity football field by Albemarle Road. The field is next to the Pallotta Athletic Center.

    EQUIPMENT:

    While this is NOT a full contact clinic, helmets and shoulder pads are required.

    Cost of the 4-day clinic is $315.

    Summer 2014 QuicKids Practice Clinic 8-18 Years Old

    This clinic is designed to give students a complete experience in learning the game of tennis. Proper techniques will be taught as a daily activity with demonstration and shadow swings, followed by drills and games that target the techniques of the day. Students will play competitive games and work with each other to reach achievable fun goals. The clinic will have a positive experience on all students with emphasis on sportsmanship and fair play. Students should be able to hit over the net with some consistence.  Choose a week to attend. You may attend more than one week.

    These classes are designed for students 10-13 years old. The class will follow the now well established and proven teaching method which focuses on stroke development and biomechanics through a set of achievable goals which teach hand-eye coordination, agility, flexibility and racket head control. The student’s ultimate goal is to play and hit with each other and play with serves on a full court with green dot balls and regular balls. Students will serve and play and run drills in a fun progressive learning environment. Choose a session or week. You may choose more than one session.

    Quick Kids classes at Generation Tennis are designed to develop agility, balance, reflexes, and ball control, racket head awareness and proper bio-mechanics. All classes are taught by certified 10 and under instructors that understand the importance of achievable goals and progression filled with success. Kids work as teams to develop the skills that are necessary to play tennis while completing tennis related techniques that are fast paced and fun. Students love to play tennis in our Quick Kids programs. Choose a week to attend. You may sign-up for more than one week.

    Belkin Family Lookout Farm, MetroWest’s beloved destination for outdoor family fun, will be open seven days a week, between 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. beginning Friday August 1, 2014 until the end of the fall season.

    The Farm will be open seven days a week, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. until the end of the fall season. The Farm is also allowing weekday visitors FREE entry after 3 p.m. with the purchase of any size fruit bag.


    U Pick at Belkin Family Lookout Farm Begins

    As the U-Pick fruit season gets underway, peaches and apples are already ripening, and plums, pears and nectarines are soon to follow.  The Farm rewards weekday visitors with free entry after 3 p.m. with the purchase of any size fruit bag. And, every day, kids can spend time in the play area, enjoy the treasured train and caterpillar rides, farm animals, burlap maze, hay pyramid, and check out the Busy Bee Center for the Farm’s new Lego tables. Belkin Family Lookout Farm offers a barbecue lunch on fall weekends and Monday holidays, as well as gelato and other tasty treats.

    Regattabar Kids’ Summer Music Series 

    The Regattabar’s Kids’ Summer Music Series returns to The Charles Hotel in Harvard Square starting on Sunday, July 13! Musicians that specialize in delighting kids with different styles of music perform everything from bilingual songs to magical folk tunes, and even dino-soaring!

    Kids and parents alike can enjoy this popular series with Elizabeth Mitchell, Alastair Moock, Tim Kubart (of Tim and the Space Cadets), The Okee Dokee Brothers, Matt Heaton: Toddlerbilly Troubador, and Gustafer Yellowgold.
